Ever since I first saw the event viewer for Windows Vista I have been hoping for an XP version. I doubt this will ever happen, at least from Microsoft. Sooo, I decided why not roll my own! After using the built-in Windows event viewer for so many years, I’ve had enough!
New features with version 1.0
- Added the ability to sort by column
- Added the ability to filter by event type (Information, Warning, etc)
- Added custom filter capability. Currently searches all fields except binary data
- Added a display pane for binary data that is shown automatically if such data exists.
- Added event type icons
Features still to come
- Time-line graphing of events
- Tasks. ie, if "this" happens, do "that"
- Real-time event monitoring and alerting (with filters)
- Possible automatic remedy suggestions for well-known errors
